Australians can help mothers in places like Cambodia, Vietnam and Nepal as well as their own through the range of gifts available through Oxfam retail and online shops.
Oxfam Shop Director Nadine Silverberg said giving a Fair Trade or charitable gift was a great way for people to show their support for poor mothers in developing countries.
“Fair Trade gifts help women earn fair wages so that they can provide for their children and families,” Ms Silverberg said.
“Oxfam’s infuser mugs are great for spoiling Mum with breakfast in bed this Sunday, while also supporting Vietnamese artisan women earn a living.
“Our Fair Trade products make wonderful gifts in their own right and help people in developing countries earn better wages to lift themselves out of poverty.”
People can also make a direct contribution to Oxfam’s work with women through the Oxfam Unwrapped charity gifts available at Oxfam shops and online at oxfamunwrapped.com.au.
$55 buys an Oxfam Unwrapped ‘Mother & Baby’ card that helps Cambodian mums-to-be learn how to take care of themselves during pregnancy and care for their newborn babies.
Other gifts on offer include the Oxfam Unwrapped ‘Start a business’ gift that for $14 helps women in Sri Lanka start their own farming, brick-making and tailoring enterprises.
Another option is Oxfam’s Lavender wheat pillow, produced by a co-operative that employs 1000 Nepali artisans and donates a portion of its profits to a shelter for women and children.
“With delicious chocolate, jewellery, stunning homewares, funky accessories and charity cards, there’s something for every Mum at Oxfam shops,” Ms Silverberg said.
