Oxfam Australia is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Valerio De Simoni.

Valerio was a member of the Expedition Quad Squad – a group of young Australians who were travelling from Istanbul to Sydney in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the longest journey on a quad bike.

Alongside the physical challenge of covering 32 countries and 40,000km, the team had decided to use their adventure to fundraise for Oxfam Australia and to raise awareness of Oxfam’s global poverty campaign.

James Ensor, Acting Executive Director of Oxfam Australia, said:

“This is a terrible tragedy. The thoughts of everyone at Oxfam Australia are with Valerio’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“When the team approached Oxfam last year to say they were doing this trip and that they would like to combine their amazing challenge with raising funds to support Oxfam’s work we were inspired by what they were taking on.

“For this to happen to someone so young with such an obvious zest for life makes it doubly tragic.”
