Oxfam Australia is urging families to choose a Mother’s Day Oxfam Unwrapped gift that also helps mums in need around the world.

More than 1500 women die from pregnancy and childbirth related complications every day, but buying an Oxfam Unwrapped gift can help fund preventative programs.

Oxfam sales statistics have revealed women buy at least four times as many Unwrapped gifts as men, illustrating the popularity of charity gifts with women.

Oxfam Humanitarian Emergencies Coordinator Steph Cousins said purchasing an Oxfam Unwrapped gift would help women in some of the poorest communities.

“Through Oxfam Unwrapped, your Mum could receive a beautiful card that also helps other women experience the joy of motherhood,” she said.

“Oxfam Unwrapped is a wonderful way for women in Australia to connect with women in developing countries.

“Every year, more than half a million women in these countries die from complications during pregnancy and childbirth.

“Oxfam works with women to provide them with pre-natal care, as well as birth attendants with the right training and equipment so they can deliver safely.”

The cards are available for purchase at Oxfam shops around the country and online at www.oxfamunwrapped.com.au
