OXJAM Australia, the music festival that raises money to help fight poverty around the world, kicks off its month-long series of fundraising parties today.

MTV Music + MTV Dance are launching OXJAM in style tonight with an official party at their HQ in Sydney. Joining them are DJs Cosmo’s Midnight, Set Mo, Sweat It Out signees Yolanda Be Cool, Nicky Night Time and triple-threat singer/DJ/producer Elizabeth Rose.

Throughout August nearly 200 gigs will take place across the country, with a percentage of ticket sales to be donated to Oxfam Australia, making OXJAM the biggest party against poverty in Australia.Sydney-based music and touring agency UNDR ctrl are teaming up with OXJAM for their 1st birthday celebrations on Saturday night with Bag Raiders, Tear Council, World Champion, Ara Koufax and Wordlife, just a few of the names on their mega-huge bill.

Noisey, I Oh You, Mutual Friends, Purple Sneakers and Motorik will perform at venues across the east coast of Australia. Tigerilla, Butcher and Boilermakers will be gracing the decks at the launch of Mutual Friends in Brisbane, with Babaganouj joining the ranks in Adelaide.

OXJAM will also feature hundreds of locally organised music events by budding musicians, producers and music fans. Parlour Gigs have signed on to host a series of lounge rooms gigs in both Sydney and Melbourne, General Assembly have teamed up with OXJAM for their Makers in Music event at Melbourne HQ and BandViews will be live-streaming over 60 artists for OXJAM throughout August.

OXJAM spokesperson Simone O’Connor is excited to have some of the best Australian musicians and event producers onboard to curate a stellar line-up of gigs and parties against poverty.

“Whether it’s a shared love of a band, standing next to a stranger at a gig or buying your first record – music brings people together,” Ms O’Connor said. “Everyone loves music and what better way to contribute to a great cause than through that.”

Anyone can get involved in OXJAM by putting on a gig or party of their own. All it takes is a living room or backyard, a group of mates and a couple of bucks donation to show your support for local music and help change lives around the world.
