Oxfam ready to assist in aftermath of severe Tropical Cyclone Winston in Fiji

Oxfam stands ready to assist in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston, currently battering Fiji.

The Category 5 cyclone is moving west, close to Fiji’s northern islands of Taveuni and Vanua Levu, with devastating wind speeds of 230 kph, gusting to more than 325 kph.

Oxfam’s regional director for the Pacific, Rajeli Nicole, is in Suva, which is experiencing damaging winds, heavy rains and power outages.

Oxfam is ready to deploy staff from the region and Australia should assistance be required.  Oxfam has expertise in water supply, sanitation and hygiene, emergency food security and livelihoods.
