Responding to reports that visas have been provided to all of the 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees to be resettled under the additional intake, Oxfam Australia’s Humanitarian Policy Advisor, Nicole Bieske said:

“Oxfam welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement that visas have been provided to all of the 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees to be resettled under the 2015 commitment.”

“Considering the success of Australia’s resettlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees and the ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises in both countries– as well as the increasingly restrictive policies being enacted towards refugees in the United States, United Kingdom and European Union – Oxfam calls for the Government to resettle more Syrian and Iraqi refugees.”
