OXJAM – the music lover’s month long party against poverty – is back for its third year and is set to be bigger and better than ever.

Comedian, actor, rapper and former co-host of triple J Breakfast, Matt Okine, is on board as OXJAM’s 2017 ambassador.

OXJAM takes place during the month of August, when hundreds of music lovers around the country host their own gigs and parties to fundraise for Oxfam’s work tackling poverty around the world.

Gigs can be small and intimate or big and loud. Everything from an acoustic backyard barbie to a stadium arena belting out ballads can be registered for OXJAM, as long as there is fundraising involved.

This year, registered OXJAM gig-makers will go in the draw to win return flights to Brisbane, accommodation and two all access Purple Passes to BIGSOUND 2017 – Australia’s festival of new music and international music industry conference.

BIGSOUND runs from 5-8 September, and the Purple Pass is a golden ticket to all festival venues, official parties, plus the coveted Conference event, where musicians, music lovers and industry experts from across the globe assemble to explore challenges, build new relationships and experience the next wave of music from Australia and beyond.

“We’re so grateful to be teaming up with QMusic this year to send our winning gig-maker to BIGSOUND,” said OXJAM’s Project Manager Nadia Watson.

“BIGSOUND is such an iconic part of the Australian music scene and it’s a dream for any up-and-coming artist to a part of. It’s a really natural fit with OXJAM, which is all about bringing together a big community of music lovers who want to make positive social change through their music.”

OXJAM started in the UK in 2006 and since then, it’s grown into a massive campaign, hosted at thousands of venues, played by 50,000 gig-makers and attended by more than one million gig-goers. Fatboy Slim, Hot Chip and Jarvis Cocker are just a few of its big-name supporters.

Launching into its third year in Australia, OXJAM is starting to carve out its place as a platform to support up-and-coming artists and keep the Australian live music scene alive and kicking.

This year, OXJAM is highlighting Oxfam Australia’s Right to Refuge campaign, which calls on the Australian Government to uphold the safety and dignity of people seeking refuge.

Matt Okine, a long-time supporter of Oxfam through his music, acting and comedy, is passionate about the cause and is stoked to be on board as an OXJAM ambassador.

“If you’re um-ing and ah-ing about hosting a gig for OXJAM 2017, all I can say is, just do it. Every single dollar goes a long way. And if you can’t host a gig, check out the OXJAM website and head along to one,” said Matt.
