Oxfam Australia today announced the appointment of Lyn Morgain as its new Chief Executive (CE).

Ms Morgain will take over from Dr Helen Szoke, who announced her retirement in March after six years at Oxfam Australia.

Lyn said it was an extraordinary honour to be joining Oxfam at this pivotal time.

“I am a long-standing supporter of Oxfam and of the exceptional leadership of Dr Helen Szoke. I look forward to contributing to the organisation’s continued success.”

Ms Morgain has worked as Chief Executive at cohealth, Victoria’s largest community health organisation, for the past five years. She has extensive experience holding leadership roles with non-profit organisations in the public health sector.

Oxfam Australia’s Board Chair Dennis Goldner said the international search saw a high calibre of outstanding candidates, and it was Ms Morgain’s strong experience in leading complex organisations and decisive leadership style that made her the best fit for the role.

“We’re delighted to welcome Lyn to this role at Oxfam,” Mr Goldner said.  “We know she will bring a wealth of experience in driving organisational change and building strategic partnerships.

“The Board was looking for someone with a talent for innovation who could implement decisions with the drive and urgency needed for a large, global organisation.

“We see Lyn as a broad thinker and a values-driven leader who has dedicated her career to advocating for the rights of vulnerable people. This will make her an excellent fit for Oxfam.”

Ms Morgain will commence as Chief Executive of Oxfam Australia on 5 August 2019.  She will be available for interview once she is in the role.

Dr Szoke’s last day with Oxfam Australia will be 16 August 2019.
