Coffee and drinking chocolate lovers will be able to continue to buy a selection of Oxfam fair products from Australian supermarkets and online, it was announced today.

The continued availability of a select range of coffee and drinking chocolate products on the shelves of Australian supermarkets comes after a licensing arrangement between Oxfam and Bean Alliance Group – Oxfam’s long-term coffee roasting partner.

Initially ear-marked for distribution to come to an end in August as part of the closure of Oxfam Australia Trading, the continuation of the Oxfam fair brand through the collaboration with Bean Alliance Group has been welcomed by key industry stakeholders.

“We welcome the opportunity for Australian customers to continue purchasing the Oxfam fair brand through our new collaboration with Bean Alliance Group,” Oxfam Australia Chief Operating Officer Tony McKimmie said.

“Not only does this collaboration mean Australians can continue purchasing their favourite Oxfam coffee with their weekly shop, but Bean Alliance Group are also paying a percentage of sales from each product back to Oxfam Australia.

“This means there will be no disruption to the income of farmers supplying Oxfam’s fair coffee and drinking chocolate and will also provide funding to help Oxfam’s core mission of tackling poverty.”

Bean Alliance Group Chief Executive Officer, Ange Augello said: “We’ve collaborated with – and roasted coffee for – the great team at Oxfam Australia for 10 years, together with my colleagues at Bean Alliance we’re delighted to continue to roast this award winning coffee.”

As Fairtrade and organic certified products, the Oxfam fair range of coffee and drinking chocolate are sourced using frameworks that ensure farmers are paid a fair and stable price for their raw ingredients and additional premiums are paid to empower communities to build better lives for themselves.

“We have a minimum price we are paid,” Fairtrade coffee farmer Maria Bosco said.

“I use the money to buy school books and other necessities for my children.”

The select range of Oxfam fair coffee and drinking chocolate will be available at Australian supermarkets, and also online at www.faircoffee.com.au.
