As announced via triple j yesterday, OXJAM, the month-long music festival raising money to help Oxfam fight poverty around the world, returns to Australia this August. The star-studded event has been running for nearly a decade in the United Kingdom and has attracted celebrity support from the likes of Coldplay, Fatboy Slim, T.E.E.D, 2ManyDJs, Hot Chip and many more.
Last year 12,000 partygoers attended more than 180 OXJAM gigs across the nation, raising thousands of dollars for Oxfam Australia’s work. In its second year, OXJAM is set to be bigger than ever. The Australia-wide DIY music festival will feature hundreds of locally organised music events, run by music-lovers and party-hosts, all raising money for Oxfam Australia – including three headline events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Oxfam today named ARIA award winners, Megan Washington and Art vs Science as the first official OXJAM ambassadors who are on board to show budding gig makers just how easy it is to get involved and throw an epic party of their own. Megan Washington says “I’m proud to be an ambassador for OXJAM in 2016 alongside the guys from Art Vs Science. OXJAM is a fantastic initiative, aimed at enticing music fans all over Australia to host gigs in the name of fighting poverty. I can’t wait to see what the country comes up with in August.”
WATCH the launch video – directed by Evo and the Entropico team – featuring Basenji and triple j’s Matt Okine, as Washington and the much-loved dance trio Art vs Science, compete for the ultimate house party theme.
As always, the greatest facet of this nation-wide Oxfam initiative is that anyone can be an OXJAM Gig Maker. Oxfam invites venues, party promoters and generous music fans to get involved in the name of poverty. If you think you have a better house party theme than Washington or Art vs Science, bring together a few friends, charge entry and show us how it’s done. All the help you need to sign up and throw your own OXJAM gig – from industry tips and equipment, to ticketing and toolkits – will be available via the OXJAM website when you register.
One in three people around the world live in poverty. Money raised at OXJAM gigs go towards helping Oxfam fight poverty and injustice. Saving the world has never sounded so good.
