Helen Szoke

PhD, (Public Policy – Regulation)

Role: Chief Executive

Areas of responsibility: Operational management, policy and advocacy lead

Dr Helen Szoke is Chief Executive of Oxfam Australia and a strong advocate for foreign aid and international development, human rights, gender and race equity.

Helen joined Oxfam in 2013. Prior to this appointment, she served as Australia’s Federal Race Discrimination Commissioner and as the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner.

Helen is Vice President of the Board of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), and the ACFID Humanitarian Reference Group (HRG) Champion. The HRG provides a mechanism for Australian agencies engaged in humanitarian assistance work to share information, strengthen coordination, and drive policy dialogue and development for the improvement of humanitarian relief work. Helen is also on the steering Committee for the Campaign for Australian Aid, a member of the Executive Board of Oxfam International and Chair of the Public Engagement Committee to the Oxfam International Executive Board.

Helen was Deputy Chair of the Royal College of Surgeons Expert Advisory Committee examining bullying, harassment and sexual harassment and sat on the Australia Federal Police Future Directions Advisory Committee. She currently Chairs the Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee to the Minister for Health on Bullying and Harassment, in Victoria.

She received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Deakin University in October 2015 for her contribution to Human Rights. In 2011, Helen was awarded the ‘Law Institute of Victoria Paul Baker Award’ for her contribution to human rights and in 2014 she received the ‘University of Melbourne Alumni Award’ for leadership. Helen was a finalist in the Telstra Business Womens Award in the category of Social Purpose Organisation. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration.

Tony McKimmie

BAppSc, Post Grad Business

Role: Chief Operating Officer

Areas of responsibility: Organisational learning and development, human resources, technology services, accommodation services and Oxfam Trading.

Tony has a strong background as a leader and senior manager. He held several senior positions before joining Oxfam in September 2011 — most notably at Lonely Planet, including Chief Executive Officer Lonely Planet UK, General Manager Australasia and Global Sales and Operations Manager. He has extensive experience in change management and financial strategy and the commercial sector.

Anthony Alexander

BBus (Accounting), CPA, MAICD

Role: Chief Financial Officer

Areas of responsibility: Strategic financial management

Anthony joined Oxfam as the Chief Financial Officer in 2011. Anthony has had 15 years of experience in both the not-for-profit and commercial sectors. Anthony’s last role was the National Finance Manager and Company Secretary for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, based in Sydney.

Prior to this, Anthony worked as the Commercial Manager for Mission Australia (Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania) providing financial leadership across the organisation’s community, employment and training services.

Alex Mathieson

BA Social Science (Politics)

Role: Director of Programs

Areas of responsibility: International development, policy and advocacy, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs and humanitarian strategies.

Alex joined Oxfam as a volunteer in 1989 and later spent 10 years working for Oxfam Great Britain as a humanitarian worker. In his 25 years with Oxfam, Alex has successfully led Oxfam programs in Vanuatu, The Philippines, eastern Europe and Palestine. Alex moved to Oxfam Australia in 2003 where he managed the Program Development Unit, the East Asia Regional Program and was Country Director in Vanuatu for four years. Most recently Alex held the role of Associate Director for Strategy.

Pam Anders

 MPPM, GCertF, BEd

 Role: Director of Public Engagement

Areas of responsibility: Fundraising, marketing, communications, media relations and campaigns.

Pam Anders joined Oxfam Australia in January 2014. Prior to this appointment, Pam was the Director for WorkHealth at WorkSafe Victoria, where she led the design, development and implementation of statewide workplace health prevention program.

Pam’s extensive senior management experience across a wide range of public policy, public sector management and communications areas includes roles as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Premier of Victoria, Chief Of Staff in the Office of the Treasurer of Victoria.
