Israeli and Palestinian leaders must seize the opportunity of the new ceasefire to end the cycle of violence, with lasting peace only possible if Israel permanently lifts its restrictions on Gaza’s economy and people, Oxfam said today in a new report.
The failure to extend the ceasefire will cost more lives and further endanger innocent civilians who deserve much better from their political leadership, Oxfam said.
More than 120,000 people who have fled their homes in Gaza due to violence face a precarious future, with the exit through Israel barred under the long-term blockade, and a closed border with Egypt preventing escape, international aid agency Oxfam said today.
Oxfam has condemned violence in Gaza and Israel and urged the international community to do everything in its power to push for a peaceful solution.
